| Last August I received a letter from Allyn, an American
friend, enclosing an article from the ‘ New York Times ‘ on
the old quarter of Nice. The picture ( see above ) used to
illustrate this article was actually of the street where I have my
apartment in Nice and it showed quite clearly my terrace and washing
line where, fluttering in the breeze, was the newly washed red and
white shirt my American friend had given to me as a gift a few weeks previously. Allyn
had no idea he was sending a photo of my street and of the shirt.
